Gifted, Creative & Talented (GCT)

The Gifted and Talented (GCT) Program in the West Allis-West Milwaukee School District is designed to support students who demonstrate exceptional abilities, talents, or potential in one or more academic or creative areas. Our goal is to provide challenging, engaging, and enriched learning opportunities that meet the needs of advanced learners across all grade levels.

What Is GCT?
GCT stands for Gifted and Talented, which refers to students who perform — or show the potential to perform — at a high level in areas such as intellectual ability, creativity, leadership, or specific academic subjects. Our district is committed to recognizing these students and helping them thrive through tailored instruction and extended learning opportunities.

Who Qualifies for GCT?
Students are identified for GCT services through a combination of classroom performance, teacher recommendations, assessment data, and observational checklists. Identification is ongoing and inclusive, ensuring students from all backgrounds have access to opportunities that support their growth.

What Services Are Offered?
The type and level of support provided through the GCT program may vary based on student needs and grade level, and may include:

  • Differentiated instruction within the classroom

  • Curriculum compacting or acceleration

  • Enrichment activities and projects

  • Mentorship opportunities

  • Participation in academic competitions or specialized programs

  • Support from GCT resource teachers or specialists

Our Approach
We believe that giftedness is not one-size-fits-all. Our educators work closely with students and families to create personalized learning pathways that encourage curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning—both in and beyond the classroom.
