What is the Forward Exam?
The Forward Exam is a state-required assessment administered each spring to measure how well students are mastering grade-level standards in core academic areas. It is part of Wisconsin’s statewide testing system used to evaluate both student achievement and school performance.

Who Takes the Forward Exam?
At Nathan Hale High School, 10th grade students take the Forward Exam in the subject of Social Studies. This exam helps measure students’ understanding of key historical, civic, and social concepts aligned with the Wisconsin Academic Standards.

Why Is the Forward Exam Important?

  • Provides a snapshot of student learning in Social Studies

  • Helps schools and the state evaluate how well curriculum and instruction align with standards

  • Supports school improvement planning and state accountability reporting

  • Gives families and educators valuable feedback on academic progress

When and How Is It Administered?

  • The Forward Exam is given in the spring (typically in March or April)

  • It is a computer-based test, administered in a quiet, proctored environment at school

  • Testing takes place during the regular school day with minimal disruption to other learning

How Are Results Used?

  • Schools use Forward Exam results to analyze trends, adjust instruction, and provide additional supports when needed

  • Families receive an individual student report showing how their child performed compared to state expectations
